Privacy Policy

No app account or developer upload service

Sonalet does not require a Sonalet account and does not include advertising, third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. It does not send your recordings, transcripts or translations to a developer-operated server, and the developer does not receive them automatically.

This does not mean every transcription mode is offline. Apple speech-recognition services, optional model downloads and App Store purchases involve the connections described below.

Recordings and local storage

When you start recording, Sonalet captures the microphone and/or Mac or application audio you select. Audio, timestamps, source information, transcripts and English translations are stored on your Mac in the app's local storage. Preferences are stored locally too.

Sonalet does not provide a recording cloud-sync service. Copies you export or place in a backed-up or synced location are handled by the destination and any backup or sync service you choose.

Recordings remain until you delete them. Deleting a recording in Sonalet moves its folder to the Mac's Trash, where macOS controls recovery and removal. Exported copies and backups must be managed separately. You can also choose to remove separate source tracks after processing while keeping the mixed recording.

Transcription and English translation

Auto-detect and English translation: on Apple silicon, these modes use downloaded Whisper models to process audio on your Mac. Once the required models are installed, these modes work offline. Audio is not sent to an OpenAI API or a remote Whisper transcription service.

Other transcription language modes: Sonalet uses Apple's Speech framework. Depending on your Mac, macOS version and selected language, recognition may run on your Mac or may send audio to Apple for processing. Sonalet does not force every Apple Speech request to stay on-device. See Apple's speech-recognition privacy information.

On supported systems, transcript cleanup can use Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework. That cleanup does not send transcript text to a developer-operated service.

Optional model downloads

Auto-detect and English translation are set up only when you request them. Setup downloads model and tokenizer assets from third-party hosting services through WhisperKit, currently Hugging Face and its delivery infrastructure. Those hosts receive normal connection information, such as your IP address and the files requested, to deliver the download. Downloading a model does not upload your recordings.

Downloaded models are stored on your Mac. You can remove them through Sonalet's Settings independently of your recordings.

Permissions and your control

macOS controls microphone, system or application audio-recording and speech-recognition permissions. Sonalet uses the relevant permissions for the sources and processing you enable. You can change them in System Settings → Privacy & Security, stop a recording, disable a source or turn off English translation.

Only record audio you have permission to capture. Other participants' speech may be included in the sources you choose.

App Store purchases

Apple processes App Store payments, trials, subscriptions and refunds under its own terms and privacy policy. Sonalet uses StoreKit transaction and entitlement information to check whether the recording limit should be removed and to restore purchases.

Sonalet does not receive your payment-card details. Apple may provide the developer with sales, financial and app reports through its developer services; Sonalet does not attach recordings or transcript content to purchases.

Support messages

If you email support, the developer receives your email address and whatever information or attachments you choose to send. That information is used to answer your request and investigate the issue, and is handled by the email service used for the conversation.

Please avoid sending private recordings or transcripts unless needed to resolve your issue. Support correspondence is kept as needed to handle the request and related follow-up. You can ask to access, correct or delete information you have sent by contacting the address below.

This website

The Sonalet pages do not use analytics or advertising scripts. The hosting server may record ordinary access and error logs, including IP address, requested URL, time and browser information, to serve and maintain the site. These requests do not contain your Sonalet recordings or transcripts.

The theme switch stores your light or dark preference in your browser. These Sonalet pages use a system font and do not request Google Fonts. Links to Apple or other websites are covered by those sites' own policies when you follow them.

Contact and policy updates
